A French and English audio book titled Deux pennies

IMG_1852 (1).jpg

This bilingual book Deux pennies is written by Vicki Bennett and read by Vicki Bennett and Lise Mariano. It is is a true story about an Australian boy who had a dream to build a school in Villers Bretonneux during the first world war.

After World War 1, a little boy called George decided to work hard and raise two pennies to help build a school in Villers-Bretonneux, France. This town had been flattened by war and the school destroyed.

George was one of the schoolchildren at Middle Park Primary School, Melbourne, who raised money to build the Victoria School in France after World War 1.

This is a powerful and poignant story about a little boy who, with courage, hope and perseverance, helped to build this school across the oceans.

We just had a wonderful weekend immersion in Montville staying at Montville Mountain Lodge . We arrived on the Friday afternoon and we enjoyed some wine and cheese. We enjoyed some delicious cheeses from Maleny Food and Co. with the beautiful view of the Lake Baroon dam. The students got to meet and speak French from the time they arrived while enjoying some ice breaker games and French singing. We woke up to breakfast with coffee, fruits and croissants from Crust and Co . The morning was filled with different conversation games such as charades and small short plays. We enjoyed a great lunch at Relais Bressan,a French restaurant in Flaxton, where even the waiter spoke to us in French. We returned for an afternoon of French conversation and activities including a champagne lesson with some tastings. The evening was filled with laughter and more French singing. This weekend was a great opportunity to speak French and meet new friends in a fun atmosphere.

Bordeaux

If you ever get the chance to travel to the beautiful city of Bordeaux and enjoy tasting French pâtisseries, one “ incontournable” (unmissable) tour is an historical tour of The Best Boulangeries in Bordeaux. This is a bilingual tour lead by Nikesh an Australian man, who decided to move to Bordeaux. Why that move? He loved the French language, French cooking and after many years of food blogging in Australia, he chose to pursue his passion for the French culture by offering this great tour of the pâtisseries. This walking tour gets you wandering and tasting those beautiful pâtisseries while learning about the origin of the food.
